You Can Trust God’s Power

The Lord our God is the mighty God. We should not under estimate God’s power. We should know that God is the Almighty, all powerful God. Jesus was speaking to a group of very religious people.

Matthew 22:29 NKJV Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.”

Jesus told them they were wrong and in error not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. If you will know the Scriptures, you will know the power of God. If you will know the power of God, you must know the Scriptures. Trying to know the power of God without knowing the Scriptures lead into error.

Throughout the Bible the power of God has been known in many different ways.

You can trust God’s power.

The Bible reveals God’s power during seven distinct periods of time.

  • Before the creation of Adam and Eve, God revealed His almighty power.

Before Adam and Eve, God created the heavens and the earth. God’s creation did not challenge His power. The Bible says, “God spoke everything into existence.”

  • When God created man, He breathed the breath of life into the form He had made from the dust of the ground.

God gave specific instructions for them to not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for in the day they would eat of it they would die.

  • God’s power was demonstrated in the judgment of man and the earth, and God’s provision of a redeemer.

God did not want them to perish but have abundant life. As soon as they transgressed God’s command, judgment came upon mankind and all of creation. That judgment on sin has demonstrated the power of a righteous and holy God. It is the judgment on sin that brings death. Sin has had its effect on you.

  • After Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden of Eden, for 1,656 years mankind did what was right in their own minds.

In Genesis 6:5 God saw, “The wickedness of man was great in the earth and inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.” God was grieved that he had made man on the earth so He said, “I will wipe mankind from the face of the earth.” The Bible says, “But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord,” (Genesis 6:8). So God told Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence.” Then God told Noah to build an ark for the saving of his people. Then God said, “I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens,” (Genesis 6:17).

  • The flood demonstrated the holiness and mighty power of the Lord our God.

The God who sent the flood to cover the whole earth in judgment caused the waters to recede. God put a rainbow in the skies as a testimony of His covenant with mankind. There were great men in those days. There was Shem, Ham and Japheth. From these men came all the nations of the world.

  • In rebellion against God, mankind built a tower to heaven.

In Genesis 11, God came down and scattered them upon the face of all the earth. Some people wonder why there were people all over the earth. God scattered them upon the face of the earth when they rebelled against Him, (Genesis 11:6-9).

  • From the line of Shem, Noah’s son, arose a godly man named Abraham.

God demonstrated His power and great wisdom when he made promises to Abraham. God promised a Redeemer through Abraham’s seed. God told Abraham that all the world would be blessed by his offspring. The seed of Abraham would bring hope and salvation. God made a covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

  • As a result of God’s covenant, God gave His law to Moses.

From Moses to Christ, God proved His great power. He proved that He was superior to the gods made by man’s hands. He did it with the Egyptians before He brought Israel out with a strong arm. He demonstrated His power when He brought His people across the Red Sea on dry ground. Israel saw God’s power in the wilderness as He fed, watered, sheltered and protected multitudes.

Every great Bible story demonstrates God’s great power. God’s power was revealed to Samuel, Saul, David, Solomon, and all the Kings of Israel and Judah. Even the enemies of God’s people came to know that the God of Israel is the almighty God. We stand in awe God’s power that was shown through the Prophets, Judges of Israel, and the men of God.

  • When we come to the New Testament, God demonstrated His power by sending His Son to redeem man.

The birth of Christ not only demonstrates God’s power, it reveals His great grace. Jesus Christ came showing the world the power, love and grace of the Father.

Romans 8:3-4 NKJV For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Romans 1:16 NKJV For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God to everyone who believes.

We notice God’s power through Jesus’ manifold miracles and healings. Open the Gospels and watch Jesus heal all manner of sickness and disease.

  • Watch Him open blinded eyes and unstop the deaf ear. He spoke to the lame and rubbed mud in blind eyes. He cleansed lepers and raised the dead.
  • He casts out demons and sets the oppressed free.
  • He arose from His sleep and spoke to the wind and the waves and they obeyed Him.
  • He walked on the water and stilled the storm.
  • He gave pardon and cleansing of sins.
  • The word of His faith was so powerful that He could speak to a fig tree and it dry up from the root over night.
  • He had power to tell Lazarus to come out of the grave.
  • Jesus is God’s revelation of grace and mercy.
  • The message of Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation.

Nothing expresses the power of God more clearly than the death and resurrection of the Lord.

Jesus said, “no man has power to take my life. I have power to lay it down and to take it up.”

After He had been beaten and crucified, on the third day Jesus arose from the dead.

The same Spirit that dwells in believers came upon Jesus Christ, and He arose from the grave.

Revelation 1:17-18 NKJV Jesus said, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.”

This same Jesus Who came out of the grave after conquering death, is coming back to this earth.

Christ will return to this earth in power.

Satan and every demon will be bound for a thousand years in the bottomless pit. God’s power will be demonstrated by Jesus Christ’s reign on earth for a thousand years. In that day, the Kingdom of God will be on the earth. The world’s government will be controlled from the throne of Christ in Jerusalem. The Lord will rule with judgment and power.

Isaiah 11:6-9 NKJV The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, The calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; Their young ones shall lie down together; And the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord As the waters cover the sea.

  • The sickness and destruction of the Tribulation will be healed.
  • The temple of God will be with man.
  • The visible shekinnah glory of God will overshadow Jerusalem.
  • The land will be restored and the curse will be healed.
  • The rain of heaven will fall and the blessing of God will abound.

God is demonstrating His power.

After those days, Satan will be released for a short time but God is going to bring an end of Satan and the power of evil forever. Since the Lord God almighty reigns in power, He will fulfill all things in righteousness.

You need to know the Scriptures because they show us that the Lord our God is the Almighty God.

You cannot know the scriptures without knowing the power of God. God is almighty in power. This Word of God tells us that our God is showing His power right now through His great mercy and grace.

Right now we can know the power of God’s mercy.

  • You can come before Him with your sickness and pain and receive healing by Christ.

For He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. By His stripes we are healed.

  • You can cry out to Him for salvation and cleansing and He will deliver you from all your wickedness and sin.
  • You can weep before God and His tender mercy and grace is touched by your distress.
  • By God’s power, you can be free from Satan’s oppression.
  • By His power, you can be healed from all your diseases and infirmities.
  • God’s power is sufficient to supply your daily needs.
  • The forces of nature must surrender to God’s power.
  • No flood will cover the face of the whole earth, because God is in control.
  • When the enemy comes in to destroy or arises like a roaring lion, the Spirit of the Lord will arise with overwhelming victory and protection.
  • There is power in the blood of Christ over all the powers of Satan.
  • Even the weakest sinner who calls on the name of the Lord can be saved, because God is able. This is the grace, power and wisdom of God unto salvation.

Nothing is too hard for God.

God’s mercy endures. God has all of the answers. When everyone says there is no hope, our God arises to the moment and proves that there is none like Him.

Jeremiah 33:2-3 NKJV “Thus says the Lord who made it, the Lord who formed it to establish it (the Lord is His name): ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’
