Whether we realize it or not, everyone depends on the fact that God is faithful. God’s faithfulness is the foundation for the stability of everything that is. Since He is the creator and sustainer of all creation, we depend on God’s faithfulness.
God’s faithfulness is a sure foundation for our faith, hope and trust.
Throughout the Bible, God demonstrated His faithfulness. He is true to His Word, His covenants, and promises. Consider the hope and peace that you have because God is faithful.
Lamentations 3:21–23 NIV Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
In every way you may consider, God is faithful. His faithfulness gives us stability in every situation of life. We are going to consider God’s faithfulness in several ways.
God keeps His covenant and His commands.
Deuteronomy 7:9 NIV Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commands.
Whatever God has promised is certain, steadfast and sure. Throughout His dealings with every generation, God is faithful. God has remained true to every commitment He has made. Consider the fact that God keeps His covenant to a thousand generations. A thousand generations suggests endless faithfulness.
God is faithful.
Take a look at all of the people of faith who took action on God’s word.
Enoch walked with God and was not found, because God took him. Noah believed God and built an ark and was not condemned with the wicked. Abraham obeyed God when he was called to go out to the place he would receive as an inheritance. Sarah believed God and received strength to conceive and bare a child. Moses believed God and chose to suffer affliction with the people of God. The people of Israel encircled the walls of Jericho for seven days. Rahab the harlot did not perish. Consider all of the people of faith, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets.
How could they do what they did?
God is faithful.
Numbers 23:19 NKJV God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
Look at every person and situation in the Bible.
God never fails.
The Psalmist experienced things many of us have not faced, but what he says about the Lord his God speaks to our hearts.
David indicated that in every experience of his life, God was faithful. Throughout the Psalms, David spoke about God’s faithfulness. He knew that he could trust the Lord God in every situation.
Psalm 89:1-2 NIVI will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
Consider God’s faithful love and care.
God’s love for us is so strong that nothing will ever be able to separate us from it. No tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril or sword shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus, (Romans 8:35).
Isaiah 43:13 NKJV But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior…
God is faithful.
Consider every great act of people of faith. Saying their names brings to mind things that happened.
- Noah and the ark — God is able to keep through the flood.
- Moses, Pharaoh and Egypt — God can deliver.
- Joshua and Jericho — the walls fall down because God is faithful.
- David and Goliath — no giant is greater than our God.
God is faithful.
- Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, God can keep through the fiery test.
- Consider Elijah, Elisha, Samuel, Daniel, Isaiah, Jeremiah.
Each of these took a firm stand of faith because God is faithful.
God never fails. He is always true to His word and promise.
Psalm 16:1-2 NIV David said, “Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge.” I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.”
Look closely at the words, “Apart from you I have no good thing.” He did not say: “I have some other good things!” He was saying: “Lord, You are the only good thing in my life.”
We need to see God’s faithfulness in our lives.
When you wake in the morning and lay your head at night, He is there. He goes with you through the valley. When you go through the fire, God is with you. Every time the enemy comes against you, God is present to help you.
What does this word mean: “Lord, you are the only good thing in my life?”
David was saying, God is my only source of relief and help. David had hundreds and thousands of people who were willing to lay down their lives for him. He had sources and resources many of us can only dream about.
David said, “Lord, You are the only good thing in my life.”
What was David really saying?
God, you are faithful. I can count on God every time. I always find refuge in God. God is my strength and my fortress. He gives me peace in the presence of my enemies. I find every good thing I need in God. I have no need to go elsewhere.
Psalm 16:7–9 NIV84 I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. 8I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 9Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure.
David had an unshaken trust in God’s faithfulness.
Even in the night seasons he said, “The Lord instructs me to trust Him.” In the valley of the shadow of death he feared no evil. He knew that the Lord was his rod and staff. God would prepare a table before him in the presence of his enemies. Goodness and mercy would follow him all the days of his life.
God is faithful.
Psalm 16:8-9 NIVI have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure.
When situations around you don’t look like you have a reason to rejoice and be glad, God is faithful.
When I seek His face, my soul rejoices. Every time I notice He is on my right hand, I am glad. Even when the enemy encamps all around me, I can rejoice. My God has not forsaken me.
God’s faithfulness is the answer for everything we face.
Every bit of bad news must be filtered through this. Every attack of the enemy is defeated with this. Every disaster in your life comes to this end. Everything that is going wrong in the world must face God’s eternal control. God is our shield and strength. He is our portion. He is our deliverer, strong tower and the strength of our life. He is a very present help in time of need.
Psalm 5:11 NKJV But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name be joyful in You.
Psalm 9:10 NKJV Those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.
God is faithful.
Jeremiah was remembering all of the bitterness and hardships that had besieged and surrounded him.
He felt like he was walled in and could not escape. He cried out for help but felt like one who had been mutilated and torn apart by a bear and a lion. He felt wounded all the way down to the depth of the soul.
In the depth of his distress, he said:
Lamentations 3:21–23 NIV84 Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
God is not only faithful, His faithfulness is great. Whatever we may face, God’s faithfulness is sufficient. His compassions never fail. He renews His love and compassion toward us every morning. It is because God is faithful that we have not been consumed.
God is faithful.
