Standing Before God — In The Throne Room

Standing Before God — In The Throne Room

We have contemplated the immense power and glory that emanates from the throne of God. Everyone that has been shown the glories of that place have been so overwhelmed by the power and glory of God that everything else they beheld was secondary and mostly left undisclosed. In God’s holy presence a multitude of angels are continually giving glory and honor to Him Who sits on the throne. We are shown that one day, the redeemed of all ages will unite around God’s throne and collectively offer Him all glory, honor, and praise. The sounds of praise, worship and singing permeates the atmosphere with, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the LORD God Almighty.” The throne of God represents the highest place of glory, power and authority. God’s throne is the place where we are encouraged to come to find grace and mercy to help in our time of need.

Hebrews 4:16 NKJV Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Pay attention to this fact that the throne of God is where we are encouraged to come boldly to find God’s mercy and grace to help in our time of need. Standing before God in the throne room, we are in the place where supreme authority is administered. We have some clue about supreme authority that has been exercised on earthly thrones.

Supreme authority was administered from the earthly throne of King Xerxes in the book of Esther.

When Queen Esther was asked to appear before the king, she was concerned that King Xerxes would not receive her. Previously, when Queen Vashti refused to come into the presence of King Xerxes, he had her permanently removed. After she was removed, Esther was selected to be queen. As a result of those who opposed the Jews throughout the kingdom of Persia and Media, a day was set when they were all to be killed. After fasting and prayer for three days, with much trepidation and fear, Esther presented herself before the king. I can see her approaching the throne knowing that royal authority came from the throne and if the king was not pleased and did not receive her, she would die. This same royal authority has been exercised throughout kingdoms of the world.

The throne of God is a much higher throne than any throne or kingdom on earth.

It is important for us to remember that all power and dominion belong to the LORD God Almighty. He is not only glorious and holy, God is Sovereign and Master of all creation.

How can we come and stand boldly before the throne of God, and yet we are urged and even commanded to call out to God and come before Him.

Romans 5:1-2 NKJV Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Consider this fact that Jesus Christ has opened up the access we have into this grace in which we stand. By His sacrifice and victory we are able to respond to this command and call to “Come and stand before God.”

Jeremiah 29:12-13 NKJV Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Psalm 145:18 NKJV The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth.

Ephesians 3:12 NLT Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.

Hebrews 4:16 NKJV Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Take note that we are given this invitation to come boldly and stand before the throne of grace to obtain mercy and grace. The God of all power, holiness, and glory says come. The God of all judgment and authority says come. Your entire Christian life is a result of God’s grace in which we stand. His favor and provision is an outpouring of the manifestation of God toward us through Christ Jesus our Lord. If God has demonstrated His Own love toward us by Christ dying for us, much more then, since we have been made righteous by the blood of Christ, shall we have boldness to come into His presence, (Romans 5:9). Think about the dramatic change that has occurred in you. In your sin, you would stand before God with fear and trembling expecting judgment and wrath. But now, in Christ Jesus you have been given bold access to the throne of grace so that you may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Consider the last phrase of this verse.

Each of us will face times of need and sometimes great need. Those times of need may cause us to become weak and trembling in our flesh. It is in those moments of our need that we are instructed to come before the throne of God so that He may bring relief and help.

Hebrews 4:14 TPT So then, we must cling in faith to all we know to be true. For we have a magnificent King-Priest, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who rose into the heavenly realm for us, and now sympathizes with us in our frailty.

Hebrews 4:15 TPT He understands humanity, for as a Man, our magnificent King-Priest was tempted in every way just as we are, and conquered sin.

Hebrews 4:16 NKJV Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

You are not standing alone before God. Jesus Christ your great High Priest is saying to you, “come… you may approach God.”

So, what can we expect to happen?

The text is clear if you can boldly enter the throne room, you may obtain mercy and find grace to help. Jesus knows all about your sorrows, sighing, and dying. He knows all about your pain, weakness, and uncertainties. He knows all about your sin, transgressions, and iniquity. He has the perfect offering to cover all of your needs. As your King-Priest, Jesus Christ has covered you with His blood and sacrifice. By the blood of the Lamb of God you can come boldly to God’s throne of grace so that you may obtain mercy and find grace to help.

Hebrews 10:19-20 NLT And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place.

Hebrews 10:21-22 NLT And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

When Esther came before King Xerxes to make petition for her people, she did not know what to expect. It wasn’t until the king stretched out his scepter and allowed her to approach that she had an opportunity to even speak. Even then she did not have the certainty that she would find grace and mercy.

Thank God through Jesus Christ, we can boldly come before the most holy and sovereign God and find mercy and grace.

The invitation still stands today. You can come boldly and stand before God in the throne room and find mercy and grace.
