He is to me: Access into the Father’s House
In one of His last messages to His disciples, Jesus spoke about access into His Father’s house. These are some of the most profound words of peace, hope, and eternal security for everyone who believes in Him. The Lord is telling us something we could not know if He had not told us.
John 14:1-3 NKJV “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
Jesus said: “In My Father’s house are many mansions.”
Everyone wants a permanent and secure dwelling place. In this life, we all have experienced many changes and losses. Just this past week, many people across the world have had their dwelling places destroyed. Some of them lost everything in war and others lost their homes by natural disasters. We all want security and rest. Jesus said a place has already been prepared for all of God’s children.
He gave a description of that wonderful place that is beyond our ability to understand. He said the Father of all glory has provided enough room and some to spare in our eternal abode. These places in heaven are indeed mansions supernal. It is hard to imagine what a mansion in heaven would be like.
Jesus wants you to be absolutely assured of the fact that in His Father’s house there are many mansions. He said, “If it were not so, I would have told you.” Think about that. Jesus said the only reason I am talking about this is because it is true. The reality of heaven is difficult for some people to imagine. Jesus said, “There is a heavenly mansion prepared for you.” There are no descriptions the Bible that adequately describe the glory and splendor of that heavenly place.
Jesus said: “There is a prepared place for you.” I have been invited to a banquet where they had my name on a specific place at the table. Jesus said, “There is a place in heaven prepared for you.” To help you come to peace and assurance of this prepared place, Jesus gave a wonderful promise. He said: “I will come again and receive you to Myself.”
Jesus is to me access into the Father’s house. You don’t need Saint Peter to welcome you in. The Lord Jesus Himself is access into the Father’s house. He said, “I will receive you to Myself.”
1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 NKJV But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.
Jesus is the example of what God is going to do for every dead Christian. The Bible tells us that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord Jesus. There is coming a wonderful day when the grave is going to give up it’s dead.
1 Thessalonians 4:15-18 NKJV For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
There is a place in heaven prepared for you. Jesus said, “I will come again and receive you to Myself.” What joy it is that the Lord Himself will descend from heaven and will open the way for us into heaven. The Lord is not going to leave you guessing how you will get there. He will not abandon you. Access to your eternal home is secured in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus said, “I will come again and receive you to Myself.”
John 17:24 NKJV Jesus said: “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.”
Think about the depth and magnitude of what Jesus is saying. This is an awesome expression of the love of the Lord for you.
Your Lord and Savior has a deep desire that you be with Him where He is and behold His glory. The extent of His glory is seen in the depth of the Father’s love for His Son. Jesus wants you to be with Him and behold His glory.
Matthew 25:31-34 NKJV When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”
Consider the place and the depth of the riches of what God has prepared for those who love Him.
- In John 14:3, Jesus said, “Many mansions are prepared for you in His Father’s house.”
- In John 17:24, we will be with Him and share His glory.
- Matthew 25 says, we will also inherit the kingdom that has been prepared for us.
- Peter said we will be resurrected to an “inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,” (1 Peter 1:4 NKJV).
- Then in the Revelation, God said, “He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be His God and he shall be My son.” (Revelation 21:7)
Listen again to Christ’s words in John 14:1-3, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
Jesus spoke these words of comfort and hope so that everyone who puts their trust in Him could have peace.
John 16:33 NLT I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
Look closely at what Jesus is saying.
He is saying: “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence.” You can hold on to that perfect peace and confidence. In Christ Jesus you can have peace.
He said: “In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration.” If you can hold on in confidence to Jesus and His word, His peace will keep you through every trial and sorrow. Jesus is giving us extensive and intensive care and help. When trouble, trial and sorrow comes, He is not finished. In the middle of these storms of life, it is hard to see what the Lord is doing. It is hard to see beyond the trouble, trials, distresses and frustrations.
Your Lord and Savior said: “Be of good cheer, take courage, be confident and certain!” Most of us have faced moments when we struggled to hold on, remain positive, and keep the faith. Jesus wants you to know that He has done something to help you and that He is continually working for your good.
He said, “I have overcome the world.” “I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.” (John 16:33 AMP)
Jesus is on your side and He is fighting for you. Don’t lose your courage or confident faith! He has everything worked out. His kingdom has been prepared for you. Right now let His peace sweep over your soul. Fill your heart and mind with the certain love and compassion of the Savior. Listen to His soothing words: “Let not your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in Me.”
Philippians 4:7 NKJV The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
While you allow Jesus to minister His peace to your heart, you need to know that heaven awaits. One of these days we will see God and these troubles, trials and sorrows are going to be over and we will be in His presence forever and ever.
