God is — Almighty
There are many times in the Bible and in our lives when we recognize that God is almighty. Biblically, we are given many examples of God’s almightiness that dwarf our ability to comprehend. When we see them, we marvel at the awesome almightiness of God to do the things. It appears to me that the Bible is wrapped with several events that supersede my ability to fully comprehend. From the beginning until the very end of time, God is almighty. When God displays His almighty power, every aspect of His nature and character is revealed. He never forsakes His goodness, faithfulness or kindness to demonstrate His almightiness.
The first display of God’s almighty power is shown in the first verse of the Bible.
Genesis 1:1 NKJV In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
The Lord our God is Almighty.
I have never been able to comprehend the wisdom and power that was necessary to create all things. Almighty God created everything that was necessary for the heavens and earth to come into existence. The method of God’s work is also beyond our understanding.
Psalm 33:6 NKJV By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
Try to let that soak into your mind. God did not have to physically strain to create. “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made.” It magnifies His Almighty power to know that God created by His word. He did not take substances or materials that were already in existence.
The Lord our God is Almighty.
John 1:1-3 NKJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
Even when we are told how God did it, His almighty work is beyond our ability to comprehend. We stand in awe of His almightiness. Creation in all of its magnitude and wonder testifies.
Psalm 19:1 NKJV The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Psalm 147:4 NKJV He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.
The Lord our God is Almighty.
God did not cease being almighty when He finished creating and rested on the seventh day. Hebrews 1:3 “Upholding all things by the word of His power. By the wisdom and strength of His Own power, God upholds all things by His word. Can you get your mind around the concept that God is in control of everything? Nothing just happens, because God almighty is upholding all things by the word of His power.
Throughout the Bible and the history of man, God has shown His Almighty power.
We usually recognize His almightiness when God does things that we cannot understand. The Bible shows us events that are a testimony of God’s mighty power.
Before it happened, God warned Noah, “I will bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens,” (Genesis 6:17).
Noah was 600 years old when God commanded it to rain. On the 17th day of the second month, the fountains of the great deep were broken up and burst forth, and the windows and floodgates of the heavens were opened. The water prevailed and was so mighty that all the high hills under the whole sky were covered, (Genesis 7). Never before and never since has this happened. After five months, the fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed, the gushing rain from the sky was checked. On the first day of the tenth month the tops of the high hills were seen. When Noah was 601 years old, the waters were drying up from the land. On the 27th day of the second month, the land was dry and God Almighty made a covenant with Noah and set a rainbow in the sky.
The Lord our God is Almighty.
God’s promise still stands, great is His faithfulness. Not one word of His good promises has ever failed.
Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
One of the next great manifestations of God’s almightiness was witnessed when He delivered Israel from Egyptian bondage.
God had made a promise to Abraham that He would make him a great nation and would bless him greatly, (Genesis 12). In Genesis 15:13-14, God told Abraham his descendants would be strangers in a land that was not theirs and would be afflicted for 400 years. God told him, “Afterward they shall come out with great possessions.” Not only did God do what He said, He delivered them with a demonstration of His Almighty power.
The Lord our God is Almighty.
Exodus 12:44 tells us, “And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years—on that very same day—it came to pass that all the armies of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt.”
He proved He is the almighty God when He brought Israel out with a strong arm and defeated all of the gods of Egypt. No other nation has been delivered through the sea on dry ground.
The Lord our God is Almighty.
Isaiah 40:28 NIV Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom.
The God that we trust does not grow weary. You need to really hear this. God does not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He is the everlasting God. He is the Creator of the ends of the earth.
God is Almighty.
What does it mean, “He will not grow tired or weary?” God is able to help you in every situation that you face. He shows His almightiness when we are weary and when we are weak. You may not have considered this, but God shows He is almighty when He comes to your aid.
Isaiah 40:29 NKJV He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Isaiah 40:31 NKJV But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength
Whenever you feel weary or weak, God offers the strength that you need. He bears us up in His strong arms and carries His dear children along. The Lord gives strength and power to the weary and weak. Those who are powerless and have no might, He increases strength. Those who put their hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
You can trust God’s power when you are weary or weak.
Sometimes we all feel that we have nothing left to give. When you can take no more and your strength is gone, God has the power and strength you need.
God is Almighty.
2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV And God said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 LB Each time he said, “No. But I am with you; that is all you need. My power shows up best in weak people.”
When you are weary and weak, you may not even realize that God is showing His almighty power. The same God who created the heavens and the earth is present to help you.
God Almighty keeps telling us: “I am with you and that is all you need.”
The Apostle Paul was the first one to hear those words. He tried everything he could and still felt powerless to change his situation. Nothing seemed to help. Three times he begged the Lord in prayer, but nothing worked. That was when God said: “I am with you; that is all you need.” That is what God says to us. When Paul knew his strength and power could not do it, God was there to help him.
God almighty has not forsaken you.
God shows us that He is Almighty when we face temptation and trials.
1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
God Almighty is faithful to His promises.
His compassions never fail and He can be trusted to help you with His strength and power. For every temptation, God always provides a way out. Look at those words: “will make a way of escape…” Nothing is coming up against you that God has not already made a way of escape so that you may be capable, strong and powerful. He knows how to help you. Remember God told Abraham that when his descendants would be in bondage in a strange land for 400 years. Then God Almighty said, “I will bring them out with great wealth.”
God is almighty and He will save you and help you in your distresses. Keep reminding yourself of what Philippians 4:13 says.
Philippians 4:13 says: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Psalm 46:1-3 NKJV God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah
God is Almighty.
One of the last displays of God’s almighty power is mentioned in the last book of the Bible.
God is telling us that He has already planned the defeat of the adversary of your soul. A few hundred years ago, God told us that He was in control and that Satan and all of his armies will be defeated.
Revelation 19:1 NKJV After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God!”
Revelation 19:5-6 NKJV Then a voice came from the throne, saying, “Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!” And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!
At that moment God is going to demonstrate He is Almighty.
Heaven is going to be opened and the One Who is called Faithful and True will be seen in all of His power. He will come out of heaven on a white horse and in righteousness He will judge and make war. His eyes are like a flame of fire and on His head are many crowns. His name is called The Word of God. On His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. You need to know that Satan is going to be defeated and Christ is going to reign.
God is Almighty and He is going to wrap everything up in victory.
God is Almighty.
