Jehovah Shammah – Yehôvâh Shâmmâh, The Lord Is There

Ezekiel was shown the glory that will be revealed in the millennial kingdom. After all of the troubles of the tribulation, the wrath and the judgment, the glory of God and the Kingdom of Christ will be established on earth.

In Chapter 47, Ezekiel is brought to the door of the temple and is made to see a river of life that is flowing out from under the threshold of the temple. Wherever the water flows, there is new life and healing. All of the destructions and death will be given life and healing. Trees will spring up where the river flows and they will bear fruit every month, for they are watered by the river that flows from the Temple. Then Ezekiel saw the Holy City.

Ezekiel 48:35 NLT “The distance around the entire city will be 6 miles. And from that day the name of the city will be ‘The Lord Is There.”

Jehovah Shammah — The Lord Is There

Go back to the beginning when Adam and Eve walked with God in the garden.

Those were blessed days in God’s presence. We are told very little about their fellowship, but we know that everything was right when “the Lord Is There.” The man and the woman experienced great loss when God no longer came down and walked and talked with them in the garden.

Several individuals experienced brief moments when they dwelt in God’s presence.

Noah was unique for his generation.

Genesis 6:9 tells us, “Noah walked with God.” Since The Lord Is There with Noah, he found protection, blessing, and favor. All flesh was destroyed upon the earth, but in God’s presence Noah was safe.

Abraham had a special relationship with God.

While he was in Ur of the Chaldeans, the Lord spoke to Abram.

Genesis 12:2-3 NIV84 “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

The Lord our God is Jehovah Sahammah — The Lord is There.

Abraham’s grandson Jacob came to a place where he said, “the Lord Is There.”

The sun had gone down on his journey and he took a stone and put it under his head and lay down to sleep. While he was sleeping, he dreamed that a ladder was set up on the earth and its top reached to heaven. The angels of God were ascending and descending on the ladder.

Genesis 28:13 NIV84 There above it stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac.”

In God’s presence Jacob was made to know God’s blessing, grace, and abundant supply.

Genesis 28:16 NIV84 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”

He called the name of that place Bethel. Bethel means “the dwelling place.”

He is Jehovah Shammah — “the Lord Is There.”

Moses was out in the desert tending his father-in-law’s sheep.

He saw a sight that he had never seen before. A bush was on fire but it was not consumed. He said, “I must go and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.” When he came near the place, the Lord spoke to Moses.

Exodus 3:4-5 NIV84 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”

Moses was on holy ground for “the Lord Is There.”

In God’s presence, Moses was sent to deliver God’s people from bondage.

Some time later, God led his people out of Egypt and met with them on Sinai.

From the time they camped at the edge of the wilderness, the Lord went before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, (Exodus 13:20-22). The one thing that distinguished them from all peoples on the earth was “the Lord Is There” in the midst of them. They were known as God’s people because God was dwelling in the midst of His people.

When Moses built the Tabernacle in the wilderness it was known as the Tent of Meeting.

It was the place where God would come down and meet with His people. Within the Tabernacle, God had Moses make an ark of the covenant. A lid was upon the ark of the covenant that was called the mercy seat. The Lord would come down and appear in a cloud above the mercy seat.

“The Lord Is There.”

David and all Israel went to Jebus where the Jebusites inhabited the land.

The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You shall not come in here!” David took the stronghold of Zion and it was called the City of David, Jerusalem. Mount Zion and Jerusalem became known as the city of God. David went on and became great, and the Lord of Host was with him.

After Solomon finished building the Temple in Jerusalem, the Lord appeared to him.

God told Solomon, “I have consecrated this house which you have built to put My name there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually, (1 Kings 9:3). In 2 Chronicles 7 God said, “I have chosen this place for Myself as a place of sacrifices and prayer.”

2 Chronicles 7:14-16 NIV84 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.

2 Chronicles 7:1 NIV84 When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple.

“The Lord Is There.”

When we come over into the New Testament, the Lord makes a promise that you need to hear.

Matthew 18:20 NKJV For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

He is Jehovah Shammah — “The Lord is There.”

The Holy Spirit inspired a word that is specific for every believer.

2 Corinthians 6:16 NKJV For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”

God made this promise several times. He wants to show you that He is Jehovah Shammah — “the Lord Is There.” Almost every time this promise has been made, God has shown His people His power and great glory. When He does that, God cleanses their sins, heals their sicknesses, draws them under the shelter of His power and glory. You need to know today that The Lord is There. He is dwelling in the midst of His people. In the Revelation, Jesus Christ is seen walking in the midst of His church.

Right now, “The Lord is There.”

Matthew 28:20 NKJV “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Matthew 28:20 AMP Behold, I am with you all the days (perpetually, uniformly, and on every occasion), to the [very] close and consummation of the age. Amen (so let it be).

When the Lord is present, He provides for our need and proves to us that nothing is too hard for Him. He calms all our fears and gives us peace. He leads us into green pastures and beside still waters. He restores our soul and prepares a table in the presence of our enemies. He reveals Himself as the Lord of Hosts and sends His angels to encamp around us and give us victory.

One of these days, Satan and his angels will be bound in the bottomless pit for 1,000 years.

There will be peace on earth and the Lord will establish His kingdom and will rule and reign from Jerusalem. The city will be known as the habitation of God, for The Lord is There.

Right now, He is Jehovah Shammah, The Lord is There.

Christ is in you. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you. Hallelujah, The Lord is There.
