As we continue growing in the knowledge of the Lord, we come to know that language cannot adequately give expression to the profound riches that are in Christ. For two-thousand years, believers have been drawing from the riches that are only found in Christ. Does it sound like a contradiction? You have been blessed by His vast riches, yet the depth of wealth that is made available is past finding out. We are going to look at some of these unsearchable riches that are made available in Christ.
Romans 11:33 NKJV Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
Notice the depth of riches of wisdom and knowledge of God and how impossible it is to understand His decisions, ways or methods.
Ephesians 3:8 NKJV To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,
Of all of the things that God has given us, the gift of His Son is the greatest gift.
Ephesians 2:4-8 NKJV But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
By the gift of God’s Son, rich mercy and grace has been demonstrated toward us. By Jesus Christ God’s Son, we have been raised and made to sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
Think about this! Throughout the eternal ages, God is going to demonstrate the immeasurable riches of His grace toward us in Christ
We are taking a look at the unsearchable riches of Christ.
Colossians 1:19-20 NKJV For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
Through the Lord Jesus Christ, God has determined to give us all things. Pay attention to that word “fullness.” It gives a clue to the unsearchable riches of Christ. Since God is infinitely above and beyond His creation, it is reasonable for us to see that His riches are beyond comprehension. Yet, God has said: “In Christ all the fullness should dwell.”
Romans 8:32 NKJV He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
Notice the depth of the gift that God has given us.
If God was willing to give us His Son, consider what else God is willing to freely give us. He does not measure His gracious mercy and grace by the multitude of things that He does for us. The measure of God’s grace and mercy toward us is seen in the Heavenly Father’s gift of His own Son.
Herein lies one of our greatest blessings and personal weaknesses.
When we face adversity, sicknesses, afflictions and tests, our accuser wants to draw our focus toward what is wrong in our lives. When things begin happening, do you ask: “What has gone wrong?” “What have I done?” Your accuser wants to draw your attention away from the sufficiency of Christ to your faults, failures, or demerit. He wants you to focus on your past and your weaknesses. The accuser wants you to focus on your unworthiness.
Satan’s goal is to turn you aside from the unlimited riches of grace and mercy that are in Christ.
Our challenge is to remain focused on Christ. We must constantly look to Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith. Our faith finds completion and fulfillment in Christ. We easily lose sight of the riches of Christ when we focus on our weaknesses and failures. Jesus said, “Without Me you can do nothing.”
What have we been given in Christ?
We need to grasp the unsearchable riches of His grace and mercy that are prepared and available for us to inherit.
A perfect example of our inheritance in Christ is seen in God’s provision for Abraham’s descendants.
When Abram was in Mesopotamia in the city of Haran, God gave him a secure promise. God spoke to Abram of the certainty of things that had been prepared but had not been seen.
Genesis 12:1-3 NKJV Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
The scope of God’s blessing was greater than Abram could measure, but he believed God and left his homeland. He looked for the place that God had prepared.
Later, God told Moses and Abraham’s descendants that He would give them the land.
Deuteronomy 11:22-25 NKJV “For if you carefully keep all these commandments which I command you to do—to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him— then the Lord will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will dispossess greater and mightier nations than yourselves. Every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the River Euphrates, even to the Western Sea, shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand against you; the Lord your God will put the dread of you and the fear of you upon all the land where you tread, just as He has said to you.
God’s blessing was secured for His people.
The full provision was ready for them when they were able to enter. Although there were battles and great and mighty nations to conquer, God’s promise was certain.
We are going to have battles against the adversary of our souls, but God has secured our inheritance in Christ.
In God’s mind, the land of Israel’s inheritance was already prepared and ready for His people. God said, “No one will be able to stand against you,” and “Every place that the soul of your foot shall tread upon, I have given you.”
The unsearchable riches of God’s grace and mercy are secured and certain for us in Christ. Consider the unlimited benefits that are in Christ.
We usually think about grace to save, forgive, and atone. We do not want to forget that He heals all our diseases. He shields and keeps us from destruction. We feast on His bounty of daily blessing and provision. We rejoice in the richness of His unlimited grace and mercy. Our life depends on the rich benefits we gain from Christ. Every physical and spiritual blessing are provided for us in Christ.
Ephesians 1:3-6 NKJV Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
Of all the benefits that are prepared for us in Christ Jesus, the greatest of these is Christ Himself.
Not only has God prepared the bounty of His benefits, He has prepared Christ for us and us for Christ.
John 3:16 NKJV For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Romans 8:32 NKJV He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
Consider the unsearchable riches that God has made available for you in His Son.
The deficit, demerit, and failure is removed in Christ. The Father has laid everything before us. This new, abundant and everlasting life is purchased through Christ our Lord and Savior.
1 John 5:11-12 NKJV And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
We are made complete in Christ.
Colossians 2:9-10 NKJV For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
Fullness is the Greek word: πλήρωμα play·ro·mah. It indicates that nothing is lacking. Nothing is lacking of the Godhead bodily in Christ.
Complete can only be achieved from fullness. Complete comes from the Greek word: πληρόω, playro’o. It means to make full, literally to cram, to fill to the top so that nothing is lacking, to make complete in every detail, to make or furnish perfectly, satisfy, finish, come to an end, fully and completely supply.
Completeness refers to everything that has been achieved and given to us from the fullness that is in Christ Jesus.
Colossians 2:9-10 NKJV For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
This is the bounty of the unsearchable riches of Christ.
In Christ, we are made complete. We have been united with Christ. We are the bride of Christ. He is the Vine… we are the branch. He is the Head… we are the body.
In all matters that concern our spiritual welfare, we are complete in Him.
No other sacrifice is necessary. His blood is the full atonement and covering. No additional ceremony, sacrifice, or service is necessary.
There is enough (fullness) in Christ.
- There is enough in the Person of Christ. Nothing needs to be added.
- We are fully supplied and furnished in Christ.
- There is now no condemnation in Christ.
- We are justified freely by grace through Christ.
- In Christ, we have life eternal and abundant.
- We are free from the law of sin and death in Christ.
- In Christ, we have fellowship.
- In Christ, we are cleansed, approved and sanctified.
- In Christ, we have hope.
- In Christ, there is grace sufficient for all our sin.
- In Christ, we are kept and comforted by His rod and staff.
- In Christ, our strength is increased and faith is made strong.
- In Christ, we have fullness of joy.
- In Christ, we have good works that are approved by the Father and anointed by the Holy Spirit.
This is the place of our assurance.
Every battle before us is won in Christ. In Him, we have the victory that overcomes every evil thing. He is efficient, proficient, and all-sufficient.
In Christ, we are fully satisfied.
Philippians 3:8 ESV Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
Jesus told of a man who found one pearl of great price. He sold everything he had so that he could buy it. This is what Jesus is to us. He is wisdom, righteousness, salvation. Christ is our sanctification and redemption. He is our joy, hope, life and future.
We share and partake of the unsearchable riches of Christ.
Through Him, newness of life is coming up into you. His power and nature are coming up into you. You are going to spring forth with His good fruit.
